Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has attributed the party’s ongoing crisis to unresolved grievances from the 2022 primaries and alleged interference by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, Momodu stated that the crisis began when former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike lost the PDP presidential primary to Atiku Abubakar and was not chosen as his running mate.
He claimed that Wike, while not officially a member of the APC, is aligned with the ruling party and is using his influence to destabilize the PDP.
Momodu also alleged that the APC is deliberately engineering crises within opposition parties like PDP, the Labour Party, and the NNPP to weaken them and push Nigeria toward a one-party state.
He dismissed suggestions that the PDP’s problems stem from internal incompetence, instead blaming the APC’s use of state power to suppress opposition.
Regarding the PDP’s chances in the 2027 general elections, Momodu expressed skepticism, criticizing the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) for its lack of preparedness. He suggested that the party might not even be serious about contesting the presidency in 2027.
