Zamfara: Notorious Bandits’ Leader Killed, Chief of Defence Staff Announces

Bandits’ Leader Neutralized: Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, confirmed the killing of Kachalla Halilu, a notorious bandits’ leader, and several of his followers during an ongoing military operation in Zamfara. The encounter occurred in the Mayanci area of Maru Local Government.

Government Reaction: Gen. Musa praised the success of the operation, which he described as part of the federal government’s strategy to eradicate banditry in the North-West. He assured the people of Zamfara that more efforts, including additional troops, weapons, helicopters, and vehicles, would be deployed to intensify the fight against banditry.

Call for Community Support: Gen. Musa urged Zamfara residents to provide credible intelligence to security agencies and warned against supporting bandits, as it undermines the ongoing efforts.

Governor’s Response: Gov. Dauda Lawal welcomed the Chief of Defence Staff’s visit and emphasized the importance of the support from security agencies. He expressed commitment to collaborating with the military to address banditry in Zamfara and beyond.

Troop Morale and Operations: During his visit to the 1 Brigade Command in Gusau, Gen. Musa commended the troops for their success in recent operations, including the recovery of motorcycles and weapons. He encouraged continued efforts to end the conflict despite acknowledging the challenges faced, including the loss of four soldiers in a recent attack.

The security situation in Zamfara has been a major concern, with the state being a hotspot for banditry in the North-West region. The federal government’s intensified efforts reflect a broader strategy to combat these criminal activities and restore peace in the affected areas.
