Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, has called on leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to address the rising pump price of fuel in Nigeria. Speaking at the unveiling of The Progressive Institute (TPI) in Abuja, Kukah expressed concern over the hardships faced by Nigerians, highlighting the growing issue of hunger and the high cost of petrol, which now ranges between ₦855 and ₦918, depending on the location.
Kukah emphasized the need for a reduction in fuel prices, stating that without a strong democratic foundation, the country’s progress would be unstable. He also voiced his concerns about the overall quality of democracy in Nigeria, urging for improvements to strengthen the nation’s governance system.
The event saw the attendance of several key APC figures, including Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, APC National Chairman; Godswill Akpabio, Senate President (represented by Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin); Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF); Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF); Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ondo State Governor, and other ministers and APC state chairmen.
