The case involving a continuity announcer with Pyramid FM, Dahiru, who was remanded by a Kano Magistrate Court 2, has garnered significant attention. The charges against Dahiru include criminal conspiracy, defamation of character, and insult, as per sections 97, 391, and 115 of the penal code.
The controversy arose after Abba Dala, the plaintiff, alleged that Dahiru had used his social media platform to spread defamatory statements about him. Dala claims that Dahiru accused him of committing adultery, abandoning his mother to engage in hawking, and being unable to read, write, or recite the first chapter of the Quran. Additionally, Dahiru allegedly brought someone from Niger State who accused Dala of impregnating a woman, and these accusations were reportedly posted on social media alongside a picture of Dala and a voice recording claiming that he insulted Vice President Kashim Shettima.
In response to the criticisms regarding his actions against Dahiru, Dala clarified that his decision to sue was not on behalf of the government, as he is not a government official. He emphasized that his actions were motivated by the personal insults and defamatory statements made against him by Dahiru. Dala also stated that he initially took the matter to the Magistrate Court, which then instructed the Zone One Police Command to investigate the case, leading to Dahiru’s arrest. Despite attempts by Dahiru to escape, he was eventually taken to court where the charges were filed.
Dala further mentioned that Dahiru’s legal defense was provided by a counsel named Jafar Sani Bello, who also allegedly sponsored Dahiru’s actions on social media. The court proceedings are ongoing, with the charges of insult, conspiracy, and defamation of character being central to the case.
