In a distressing incident on the Lagos-Ilesa route, a group of eight armed robbers targeted two vehicles—a commercial bus and a private car—near Osu. The robbers, armed and aggressive, intercepted the vehicles and demanded valuables from the passengers.
According to reports from Vanguard, the assailants forcefully took money, ATM cards, and other personal belongings from the victims. During the robbery, the bus driver was shot but survived, while a female passenger in the car was sexually assaulted.
A passenger identified as Wale described the harrowing experience, stating, “The driver of the bus was shot but not killed. He was injured. One of the passengers in the car, a woman, was raped. Money on us was forcefully taken. They collected all our ATM cards and made us transfer various amounts into their accounts.”
Following the attack, some passengers managed to escape into the bush and alerted local security forces. Promptly, policemen, vigilantes, and members of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service arrived at the scene. Their swift intervention led to the arrest of one of the robbers, though the remaining attackers managed to flee.
The captured suspect is currently in custody and is assisting with the ongoing investigation. The bus driver, who sustained injuries, has been transported to a hospital in Ile-Ife for medical treatment.
The Osun State Police Command, represented by Acting Spokesperson Emmanuel Giwa-Alade, confirmed the incident and commended the quick response of local security teams, which helped to mitigate the situation and apprehend one of the perpetrators. The investigation continues as authorities work to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects.
