Vice-President Kashim Shettima has revealed that the Federal Government’s recent healthcare reforms have successfully attracted over $4.8 billion in potential investments. This announcement was made during the commissioning of Sahad Hospitals in Abuja, a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to revitalize Nigeria’s healthcare system.
In his address, Shettima outlined a strategic vision aimed at addressing long-standing issues within the healthcare sector and propelling it into a more effective and sustainable future. He stressed the importance of unity in achieving these goals, stating, “Our health sector calls upon us all to unite. The promise of this day is one we cannot overlook.”
The Vice-President acknowledged the various challenges plaguing Nigeria’s healthcare system, including rising medicine costs, extended hospital waiting times, and a shortage of healthcare professionals. He emphasized that the government’s comprehensive roadmap for reform is designed to tackle these persistent issues and enhance the quality of healthcare across the nation.
Shettima also highlighted the crucial role of private sector involvement in improving access to quality healthcare services. He praised Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa, Chairman/Founder of Sahad Group of Companies, for his significant contributions to healthcare through his business ventures. Mijinyawa’s dedication to improving health services and touching lives was commended as an example of how private investments can positively impact public health.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, described the new Sahad Hospital as a milestone in Nigerian healthcare. He noted that the establishment of the hospital represents a vision realized through the investment of public-spirited individuals, highlighting the potential for positive change when such investments are made in healthcare.
Dr. Shamsuddeen Aliyu, Vice Chairman of Sahad Hospital, emphasized that the facility is more than just a building; it symbolizes a commitment to providing quality healthcare.
