According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred during a clash between residents of two villages, Yabawa and Ungwar Sarkin-Daji, at the wedding in Kumbashi District. Amid the chaos, Saidu reportedly struck Aminu on the head with a machete, resulting in his death.

SP Abiodun stated that Saidu confessed to the crime during interrogation and will face prosecution accordingly.

Arrests and Operations to Combat Crime

The police spokesperson further revealed that Saidu was one of 10 suspects recently arrested across Niger State for various crimes, as part of the Command’s 2025 Policing Action Plan.

Interception of Ammunition

On January 23, police officers from Nku Police Station, in collaboration with vigilantes, intercepted a motorcycle carrying two individuals along the Bida-Nku-Patigi road. Upon sighting the security operatives, the suspects abandoned their motorcycle and fled, leaving behind a sack containing 520 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing.

In another operation, police arrested Nasiru Isyaka, a resident of Sabon-Gari Mangu Matachibu village near Kontagora. Isyaka is suspected of being involved in a kidnapping incident on December 29, 2024, during which armed men invaded the village, killed one person, and abducted two others.

The victims were later rescued in a joint security operation. During investigations, Isyaka was identified when he visited one of the kidnapping victims and was recognized as a perpetrator. A locally-made short gun was recovered from him, and he has since confessed to his involvement in the crime.

Commitment to Security

The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and reducing crime across the state. He emphasized that proactive measures, such as routine patrols and collaborations with vigilante groups, will continue to be employed to combat criminal activities.
