In Plateau State, the Police have arrested 18 suspects involved in various criminal activities, including kidnapping, extortion, and firearm possession. The arrests were announced by the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, during a press briefing in Jos.
One notable case involved the arrest of Alheri Isaac in connection with a kidnapping attempt reported on February 20, 2024, in Pankshin Division. The victim, Boniface Shiktuwa, received threats from an unknown caller demanding a ransom to avoid being killed. Despite offering a reduced amount, the victim reported the threat to the police. Isaac’s subsequent interrogation led to the arrest of Abdulkadir Suleiman, the alleged leader of the syndicate. The case remains under investigation.
Other arrests included suspects involved in criminal intimidation, attempted murder, kidnap, and extortion. Additionally, firearms were recovered from the suspects.
In another incident, Zaidu Mohammed, 24, was arrested for trespassing and possessing a locally made pistol. Mohammed had reportedly attempted to take the firearm to escape from his brother-in-law’s home. He is currently being investigated by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
Commissioner Adesina urged citizens to continue providing timely and relevant information to assist security agencies in their efforts to combat crime.
