Gwandu Emirate to Reintroduce Annual Horse Racing Event

The Gwandu Emirate in Kebbi has announced plans to reintroduce its “Traditional Annual Horse Racing” event, aiming to strengthen unity among its people. This traditional event, known for its cultural significance and community engagement, is set to be held in November this year.

Alhaji Mustapha Usman-Adamu, Chief Coordinator of the Horse Racing Committee for the emirate, revealed the plans during an interview in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday. Usman-Adamu, who is also the Sarkin Bargun Ka’oje, emphasized that the reintroduction of the horse racing event is part of a broader effort to foster cohesion and cultural pride within the emirate.

The announcement followed a maiden stakeholders’ meeting, where various community leaders and representatives gathered to discuss the event’s logistics and significance. The meeting aimed to ensure comprehensive planning and community involvement, ensuring that the event reflects its traditional roots while meeting contemporary expectations.

The traditional horse racing event, which has been part of the emirate’s cultural heritage, is expected to not only celebrate the rich history of the Gwandu Emirate but also serve as a platform for social interaction and unity.
