Former FCT Minister, Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni, Dies at 82

n, has passed away at the age of 82. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang confirmed his death on Thursday night, following a prolonged illness.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang expressed deep sorrow over the passing of General Useni, describing it as a significant loss not only to his family but also to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the entire nation.
“General Useni’s exemplary leadership and tireless commitment to service left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s security and political landscape,” the Governor noted. He highlighted Useni’s longstanding contributions to peace and security, particularly in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State, emphasizing that his efforts would be remembered for generations.
Governor Mutfwang also reflected on Useni’s distinguished career, which included serving as Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT. After retiring from the military, Useni ventured into politics, where he served as the Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and was elected as Senator for Plateau South in 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The Governor commended Useni’s life of selfless service and his significant impact on both the military and political spheres. He described Useni as a compassionate leader whose kindness, generosity, and dedication to public service have left a lasting legacy.
On behalf of the people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang extended condolences to the President, the Nigerian Armed Forces, Useni’s family, and all those mourning the loss of the esteemed leader. He prayed for divine strength for the family, the state, and the nation during this difficult time.
