Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has suspended the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Otonye Briggs. Hon. Bitebobo Nelson Amieye has been appointed as the new Caretaker Committee Chairman for the LGA.
Governor Fubara has directed Briggs to hand over all council properties to Amieye. The official reason for the suspension has not been disclosed by the state government. However, reports suggest that it may be related to the alleged failure of Briggs to implement required empowerment programs for local residents. Fubara has emphasized that all LGA chairmen should prioritize such empowerment initiatives for their supporters.
