The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has made a firm declaration to safeguard the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State from external interference. Speaking at the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt during the party’s state congress on Saturday, Wike expressed his determination to prevent any attempts by external forces or other PDP governors to take control of the party’s organization in the state.
Wike’s statement follows recent developments involving PDP governors, who convened in Taraba State on August 23. During this meeting, the governors addressed the ongoing crisis within the party in Rivers State and expressed support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The PDP governors’ forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, issued a communique advocating for a review of the party congress outcomes to reaffirm Fubara’s leadership role in the state.
In his address, Wike made it clear that he would not tolerate any attempts to usurp the PDP structure in Rivers State. He warned that such attempts could lead to a political crisis within the state and reiterated his commitment to preserving the party’s organization in Rivers.
“Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of PDP from us,” Wike asserted. He further criticized those who suggested that the party’s structure could be handed over to someone else, emphasizing his resolve to defend the party’s integrity and autonomy in Rivers.
