Napoli has reportedly approved a season-long loan deal for Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray, following a tumultuous few weeks marked by transfer negotiations and internal disputes.
Osimhen, who had requested a transfer ahead of the summer window, saw interest from several big European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Arsenal. Despite his contract including a €130 million release clause, these clubs were unable to meet Napoli’s demands or Osimhen’s wage requirements.
As the transfer deadline approached, Chelsea and Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli were still pursuing Osimhen, but they were unable to finalize a deal with Napoli. In the wake of these failed negotiations, Napoli took the drastic step of removing Osimhen from the first-team squad and reportedly demoted him to the under-23 team.
To avoid paying Osimhen’s substantial weekly wages without him contributing on the pitch, Napoli began exploring loan options. The club has now agreed to loan Osimhen to Turkish side Galatasaray, with the transfer window in Turkey open until September 13.
Sky Sports confirmed earlier today, September 2, that Napoli has given the green light for Osimhen’s loan move to Galatasaray for the remainder of the season. The next step is for Osimhen to decide whether to accept the loan proposal or remain sidelined until the January transfer window, when he might have another opportunity to secure a move.
