Romelu Lukaku Officially Joins Napoli on Permanent Deal

Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku has finalized his move from Chelsea Football Club to Serie A side Napoli in a permanent deal.

Both clubs confirmed the transfer on their official websites on Thursday, August 29, 2024. Napoli has acquired Lukaku for £25 million, with an additional £12 million in potential add-ons, securing him on a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2027. The move was strongly endorsed by Napoli’s head coach, Antonio Conte, who previously managed Lukaku at Inter Milan.

Lukaku’s return to Serie A follows a notable tenure at Inter Milan, where he won the Serie A title under Conte’s management in 2021. His impressive performance during this period prompted Chelsea to spend £97.5 million to bring him back to Stamford Bridge later that year.

The transfer marks the end of Lukaku’s second spell with Chelsea. His initial stint with the Blues concluded in the summer of 2014 when he was sold to Everton for a club-record £28 million. During his first tenure at Chelsea, Lukaku scored 13 goals in 52 appearances.

Lukaku’s move to Napoli represents a significant shift in his career, as he returns to Italy with the aim of continuing his successful form and contributing to Napoli’s ambitions in Serie A.
