Nigerian troops have successfully neutralized eight notorious terrorists and rescued 16 hostages during extensive operations against insurgents across the country. The Nigerian Army shared details of these operations on its official X-Handle on Monday, reporting the recovery of various firearms and other materials.
On September 22, troops thwarted an attempted terrorist raid on several villages in Borno State aimed at securing supplies and logistics. Three terrorists were eliminated in the process. Recovered items included a light machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, two hand grenades, five AK-47 magazines, 200 rounds of linked light machine gun ammunition, and additional materials like money and mobile phones.
In another operation, the army acted on credible intelligence to intercept terrorists escorting kidnapped victims through Uvaha village in Gwoza Local Government Area. Despite heavy rainfall, the troops pursued the terrorists, eliminating one and forcing the others to flee, leaving behind 16 hostages. Among the freed captives were 10 men and 6 women. During a follow-up search, the soldiers discovered two grenades, a bag of fish, and other items.
In Yobe State, soldiers set up a well-planned ambush based on intelligence about a group of terrorists receiving supplies from their collaborators. This led to the neutralization of four terrorists in Madza and Azare villages of Gujba Local Government Area. The soldiers seized two AK-47 rifles, two empty AK-47 magazines, and additional items.
The army also reported that troops deployed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted a stop-and-search operation on suspected vehicles in Kugbo, Abuja. During this operation, they apprehended a suspect found with 178 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition hidden in a bag of flour. A mobile phone and ₦29,000 were also recovered.
