Tinubu: Okupe Responds to Afenifere, Claims ‘Economic Turnaround is Now Visible

Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former Presidential Spokesperson and ex-Director-General of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organization, has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic recovery. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, Okupe stated that current economic indicators suggest a positive turnaround in the nation’s economy.

His comments came in response to criticism from Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, which had expressed concerns over the worsening economic conditions and the apparent hardship faced by Nigerians. The group voiced its discontent in a communique following its quarterly meeting in Ogun State.

Okupe acknowledged Afenifere’s right to critique the government but suggested that their concerns, though valid, were somewhat delayed. He praised the group’s historical commitment to nationalistic principles, even when criticizing a Yoruba President, Bola Tinubu.

He argued that while Nigeria is indeed experiencing tough socio-economic conditions, these challenges are a result of corrective measures implemented by the current administration to address economic problems inherited from the previous government. Okupe believes these measures are starting to show signs of positive impact, indicating a gradual recovery in the economy.
