Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) in Oyo State has celebrated the achievements of Sunday Saanu, the Chief Information Officer of the University of Ibadan (UI), for his outstanding contributions during his one-year sabbatical with the institution. The farewell ceremony, held on August 31, 2024, was a vibrant tribute to Saanu’s professionalism and dedication.
The event was marked by accolades and commendations from various members of the university community. ACU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Adebayo, lauded Saanu for his exceptional performance and impactful work. “Saanu has not only met but exceeded our expectations,” Adebayo stated, reflecting on his decision to invite Saanu to ACU due to his impressive track record at UI.
Adebayo recounted how Saanu’s extensive experience and exemplary writings in the media had convinced him of Saanu’s potential value to the faith-based institution. “His writings are a testament to his mastery of the English language, and his impact here has been felt by everyone,” Adebayo added, highlighting Saanu’s role in navigating a critical crisis at the university. The Vice Chancellor credited Saanu with providing key strategies that were instrumental in restoring normalcy.
Dr. Bosede Ajiboye, the university’s Librarian, echoed Adebayo’s praise, emphasizing the quality of Saanu’s writing. “His articles are always a must-read, and his dedication is inspiring,” she remarked.
Additional tributes were paid by Deputy Registrar Mr. Olusegun Ojo and Public Relations Officer Mr. Olufemi Atoyebi, both of whom praised Saanu’s significant contributions and the valuable lessons they learned from him during his tenure.
In an emotional response, Saanu expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the honor. “I never imagined such a lavish farewell. I am humbled and deeply moved by all these tributes,” he said. Saanu assured the university community of his continued support and commitment to ACU’s success.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of an award to Saanu, recognizing his invaluable contributions to the university. This acknowledgment underscores the significant impact Saanu made during his time at Ajayi Crowther University.
