Sultan of Sokoto Directs Muslims to Look for Crescent of Sha’aban
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has issued a directive for Muslims to begin the search for the crescent moon of Sha’aban 1446 AH starting from Wednesday, January 29, 2025. This announcement was made through a statement by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council.
According to the statement, Wednesday, January 29 corresponds to the 29th day of Rajab 1446 AH, and Muslims are asked to observe the skies for the new crescent. Upon sighting the moon, they are urged to report their findings to the nearest district or village head, who will then communicate the sighting to the Sultan.
The Sultan prayed for Allah’s guidance and blessings for all Muslims as they fulfill their religious duties. Sha’aban is the eighth month in the Islamic calendar, and it precedes the holy month of Ramadan.
