Police Seize 740 Rounds of Live Ammunition in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has made significant strides in curbing criminal activities within the region, announcing major arrests and seizures during a press briefing on Friday at the Katsina police headquarters.

On August 29, 2024, at approximately 12:45 PM, law enforcement officials apprehended three individuals involved in a gunrunning operation. The suspects were arrested in Dutsinma town, located in the Dutsinma Local Government Area, while transporting a substantial quantity of ammunition intended for alleged terrorists within the region.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the apprehended individuals were in the process of delivering 740 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition to bandits in the Yauni forest, situated in Ummadau village, Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State. The ammunition had reportedly been procured from Nasarawa State. The suspects were intending to hand it over to a suspected bandit leader named Harisu, who remains at large.

Initial investigations have revealed that the three individuals have confessed to their involvement in the operation and have implicated Harisu as the mastermind behind the gunrunning scheme.

In a separate incident, the Katsina State Police Command has also revealed details about a bank fraud operation involving three suspects. The crime was reported on August 3, 2024, when Ukashatu Isah, a resident of Kofar Arewa quarters, Baure Local Government Area, Katsina State, was attacked at his home by a gang of armed robbers.

The suspects, armed with guns, forcibly stole two mobile phones from Isah. Utilizing these stolen phones, the robbers transferred a total of N6 million from Isah’s bank account into three different bank accounts. The transfer was executed at approximately 1:30 AM on the day of the robbery.

Following the report of the robbery, police detectives initiated a swift investigation, leading to the successful arrest of the three suspects involved. During questioning, the suspects admitted to the crime and detailed their method of operation. They are expected to be charged in court shortly.

ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu emphasized that these arrests and seizures highlight the Katsina State Police Command’s ongoing commitment to combating banditry, gunrunning, and other forms of criminality in the region. The command is dedicated to apprehending additional suspects and ensuring justice is served.

“This achievement reflects our determination to address and mitigate the threats posed by organized crime in Katsina State and beyond,” Aliyu stated.

The Katsina State Police Command continues to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of residents and to maintain the rule of law in the region.
