Police Kill Suspected Armed Robber in Plateau Shootout

Police operatives in Plateau State engaged in a shootout with suspected armed robbers on Thursday night in Bokkos Local Government Area, resulting in the death of one suspect. The incident was confirmed in a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, on Sunday.

According to the statement, the police patrol team, attached to the Department of Operations (DOPS) at the State Headquarters in Jos, encountered a roadblock set up by the armed robbers while on their way to Bokkos LGA around 8 p.m. on August 29, 2024.

Upon spotting the patrol vehicle, the robbers opened fire on the officers, leading to a gunfight. During the exchange, one of the suspects was shot and killed, while the others managed to escape into the nearby forest.

The Divisional Police Officer from Bokkos division visited the scene, and the deceased suspect’s body was taken to the Bokkos Public Morgue.

In the statement, Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Olugbemiga Adesina, reassured residents of the state’s commitment to their safety and security. He urged the public to remain vigilant and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies as investigations continue, with efforts underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
