The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended six suspects during various “stop and search” operations at different checkpoints across the state. The operations, conducted on February 2, 2025, led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, drugs, and other incriminating items.
According to a statement from the police spokesman, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, the first incident occurred at Anaku/Omor Junction, where eight suspects on a motorcycle were intercepted. The suspects fled during the search, but the police were able to chase and arrest three individuals—Okafor Chibike, Ekene Lucky Nwadigbu, and Godwin Osaz—all residents of Omor. The police recovered a locally made double-barrel gun, a revolver pistol, a dagger, and several other items, including three Android phones, four ATM cards, and a gallon of a suspected hard drug. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects are members of the Aye Confraternity, and they were en route to their den for initiation.
In a separate operation at Eke Awgbu Junction on February 1, 2025, three other suspects were arrested in a tricycle. The suspects, identified as Chidera Nwochia, Chizurumu Elvis, and Kosisochukwu Obiechina, were found with a 7.62mm live ammunition, a black axe, and other items similar to those seized in the earlier operation. During questioning, the suspects confessed to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity and were on their way to an initiation venue. The police also recovered the tricycle used by the suspects.
The State Police Command has vowed to continue its efforts in combing the area for any other members of the criminal groups and to ensure the safety of the residents.
