The Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, has taken disciplinary action against 78 students for various infractions. The university announced the expulsion of 31 students and the indefinite suspension of 47 others in a statement from its Public Relations Office on Tuesday.
Among those expelled is Ojo Michael, a sophomore from the Computer Science Department, who has been rusticated for the entire 2023/2024 academic year. His expulsion follows his conviction for falsifying his Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) to fraudulently qualify for Student Union elections. This decision was made during a Senate meeting on July 31, 2024.
In addition to Michael, 17 students were expelled for examination malpractice, five for issuing threats, and one for fraudulent activities. The sanctions were recommended by the Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee after thorough investigations.
The university also imposed indefinite suspensions on 47 students for various offenses, including impersonation. The affected students have been instructed to remain off-campus to prevent potential confrontations with security personnel.
The university Senate reaffirmed its commitment to upholding academic discipline and integrity, warning that any student found guilty of misconduct would face severe penalties in accordance with institutional regulations.
The statement from the university read:
“The Senate, at its Statutory meeting on July 31, 2024, approved the rustication of Ojo Michael, a 200-level student in the Computer Science Department, for the 2023/2024 academic session due to forgery of CGPA to contest Student Union Elections.
“Seventeen other students were rusticated for examination malpractice, five for threats to life, and one for fraudulent acts. Forty-seven students were given indefinite suspensions for various misconducts, including ten for impersonation.
“Various other penalties were also imposed based on recommendations from the Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee. The affected students are advised to stay off-campus to avoid being confronted by University Security Personnel.”
