Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed confidence in his current options on the wing, despite ongoing transfer rumors linking the club with a move for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho. The 20-year-old Argentine international has reportedly attracted interest from Chelsea and Serie A side Napoli during the January transfer window.
Maresca noted that although Chelsea has been without Mykhailo Mudryk due to a doping investigation, he is satisfied with the existing wide players at his disposal. With Mudryk unavailable, academy graduate Tyrique George made his Premier League debut in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Wolves. Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto, and Jadon Sancho have been filling the wide positions, while Joao Felix can also be used on the wings.
“We’re happy with the ones that we have in this moment,” Maresca said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Manchester City. He mentioned that Mudryk’s absence has opened opportunities for other players, including George, a promising young talent.
Maresca also acknowledged the ongoing transfer activity, with Chelsea closely monitoring options in the market, as the January window closes on February 3. Chelsea, currently in fourth place, is focused on securing a Champions League spot for next season.
While he downplayed suggestions that facing Manchester City at a difficult time would benefit Chelsea, Maresca emphasized the challenge City presents, noting that when a team like City is struggling, they are determined to prove themselves. “I think this kind of club with these kind of players, when they are in a difficult moment, it’s when they want to show how good they are,” he added.
