Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has shared a cautionary tale to guide Nigerians against hasty decisions. In a recent post, Adeboye recounted how his eagerness to be involved with the military led to his being deceived, serving as a valuable lesson for his followers.
Adeboye described an incident where an individual posing as a representative of a paramilitary group approached him with an offer to become their spiritual leader. Despite his usual practice of seeking divine guidance, Adeboye’s passion for the military clouded his judgment. He agreed to the proposal and provided funding, only to later discover that the person was an imposter.
Reflecting on the experience, Adeboye said, “My desire to be part of a paramilitary group made me run ahead of God. However, God had already planned for Redemption City to have its own corps of chaplains and a local police post.” He highlighted that trying to outpace God’s plans can lead to unfavorable outcomes, including the loss of valuable resources.
Emphasizing the need to trust in God’s timing, Adeboye cited Ecclesiastes 3:11, “God makes everything beautiful in His time,” and encouraged his followers to avoid pursuing worldly distractions that might prevent them from receiving greater blessings. He advised, “Follow God’s timing; don’t try to outrun Him,” assuring that God desires our well-being and prosperity, as expressed in Psalm 35:27 and 3 John 1:2.
