Gunmen have reportedly abducted at least 10 travelers along the Owo-Ipele-Benin Highway in Ondo State. The state police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident, stating that seven persons had been kidnapped, though sources suggest the number may be higher.
The victims were reportedly traveling from a South-South state to Akure when the armed men ambushed them. Their abandoned commercial vehicle was later discovered by the roadside, raising alarm among other road users.
Odunlami assured the public that the police are investigating the incident and will provide further details as the situation unfolds. Meanwhile, reports indicate that the kidnappers have contacted the victims’ families and are demanding ransom for their release.
