Former Lagos State governor Babatunde Fashola recently discussed his approach to public engagement during his tenure from 2007 to 2015. He required aides and commissioners to join social clubs to enhance the accessibility and understanding of government policies among the public. Fashola shared these insights during the 50th-anniversary lecture of the Eko Club, where he emphasized the role of social clubs in social engineering.
Fashola, also a patron of the Eko Club, advocated for a revival of the club’s focus on sporting activities as a means to address youth unemployment. He urged the club to play a more active role in societal issues and not just as a venue for social events, encouraging it to look forward to its next 50 years of development.
