Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has vehemently denied recent rumors suggesting that former Transportation Minister Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi expressed regret over his association with the party. Eze labeled these reports as misleading and part of a strategic effort to sway public opinion.
The speculation emerged over the weekend, with social media reports claiming that Amaechi had expressed remorse for his involvement with the APC. These claims were further amplified by reports suggesting that Amaechi had commented negatively about his role in expanding the party.
In response to these allegations, Eze, a close ally of the former Rivers State governor, addressed the media to refute the claims. Eze emphasized that Amaechi has not authorized anyone to speak on his behalf and remains committed to the APC.
Eze stated, “I read with great disdain the fabricated falsehoods suggesting that Amaechi regrets his involvement with the APC. Such reports are baseless and intended to tarnish Amaechi’s reputation.”
He further criticized the reports as attempts by “demented, unscrupulous and undemocratic merchants” to undermine Amaechi’s contributions to the party. Eze argued that the former governor’s silence on political matters should not be misconstrued as regret or dissatisfaction with the APC.
Eze clarified that Amaechi’s silence is a personal decision based on his convictions and does not reflect any regrets about his role in forming and developing the APC. He also highlighted that leadership failures in Nigeria are not necessarily linked to party affiliation.
In his statement, Eze quoted Amaechi as firmly denying the alleged comments: “I did not say that rubbish,” Amaechi reportedly stated.
Eze urged those spreading false reports to cease their efforts and respect Amaechi’s decision to remain silent. He reaffirmed that Amaechi has no regrets about his contributions to the APC, including his efforts in transforming Nigeria’s rail transportation and supporting President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
