The Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, has issued a warning to contractors in the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area regarding the potential termination of contracts for substandard work.
During a site visit on Friday to inspect the construction of Smart Green Schools and Type-3 Primary Healthcare Centres, Onyia, accompanied by local officials including Igbo-Etiti Chairman Dr. Eric Odo, expressed his dissatisfaction with contractors who are failing to meet project deadlines.
He indicated that those not delivering quality work may face blacklisting by the government. Onyia emphasized the importance of adhering to the approved building plans and insisted that only quality materials should be used in the construction processes.
He reassured contractors that adequate funding has been allocated for these projects and that any defective work will be scrutinized. “If there are any issues, please report them to the local government chairman, Dr. Eric Odo, so that we can resolve them promptly and allow you to progress with your work,” he stated.
Ongoing state support was highlighted, with Onyia reminding contractors that there should be no excuses for delays, as Governor Dr. Peter Mbah has ensured all necessary resources are available for timely project completion. He stressed that the state government remains committed to overseeing quality construction until all projects are finished.
In response, Chairman Dr. Odo urged contractors to accelerate their work, noting the council’s eagerness for the completion of the Smart Schools and healthcare centres. He assured Onyia that the identified issues would be addressed swiftly.
