Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has announced an increase in the minimum wage for civil servants in the state, setting it at N70,000. This decision was made public on Saturday during the grand finale of the Ojiji Izhi New Yam Festival.
In his announcement, Governor Nwifuru revealed that he has directed relevant government authorities to outline the necessary procedures for implementing the new wage, which is set to take effect from September. This move is expected to improve the welfare of state employees and address concerns over fair compensation.
In addition to the wage increase, Governor Nwifuru expressed his dissatisfaction with the execution of government projects, particularly those awarded to prominent figures in the state. He specifically criticized the handling of the housing estates in Izo autonomous community within the Ishielu Local Government Area. The governor issued a directive to the Commissioner for Housing to ensure that the painting of these houses is completed without delay.
Governor Nwifuru also urged residents to report any delays in government projects caused by contractors, emphasizing the importance of accountability and timely completion of state-funded initiatives.
The announcement of the new minimum wage and the governor’s focus on improving project execution reflect his administration’s commitment to both enhancing civil servant welfare and ensuring the effective delivery of public infrastructure.
