Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has responded sharply to comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during a recent media interview. In the interview, Wike allegedly directed disparaging remarks at Mohammed and his role as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum.
In a statement released on Thursday by Mohammed’s Media Adviser, Muhktar Gidado, the governor criticized Wike for his behavior, describing him as someone who thrives on creating drama and division within the political landscape.
The statement reads, “The attention of Sen. Bala Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, has been drawn to the latest disjointed and bombastic media chat by Chief Nyesom Wike, the Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.”
Mohammed continued by accusing Wike of inconsistency, highlighting the contradictions in his statements, which made it difficult to identify any substantive arguments. He noted that Wike’s actions were an attempt to undermine the PDP, a party that played a crucial role in his political rise.
“Chief Wike’s rise in politics is a direct result of the opportunities provided by the PDP. Ironically, he now seems intent on tearing down the very foundation that supported his ascent,” the statement added.
The governor also expressed disappointment that Wike, who owed much of his success to the PDP, had resorted to denigrating the party, accusing him of a “transactional approach to politics,” where personal ambition took precedence over loyalty and the collective interests of the party.
Mohammed contrasted his own approach, stating that unlike Wike, he viewed politics as a platform to serve the public good rather than a stage for self-serving theatrics. He further described Wike’s behavior as opportunistic and unreliable, emphasizing how it had alienated even his closest allies.
“Wike’s behavior exposes him as a fair-weather friend and an inconsistent ally—traits that drive away even those who once stood by his side,” the statement concluded.
