Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on Nigerians living abroad to remain hopeful and continue their support for Nigeria despite the current socio-economic challenges. Speaking at a virtual interactive session with diaspora Nigerians on Saturday, Abubakar emphasized the critical role of expatriates in shaping the country’s future.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by Prof. Gold Emmanuel, Senior Special Assistant on Communications & Intelligence and Diaspora Affairs to Abubakar, the former Vice President urged citizens not to give up on Nigeria. He acknowledged the severe economic difficulties and rising poverty affecting millions of Nigerians but stressed the importance of resilience and collective effort in overcoming these challenges.
Abubakar highlighted the unique perspective that Nigerians in the diaspora possess regarding good governance and economic management. He encouraged them to keep praying for Nigeria’s progress and to support their families and friends back home, noting that their contributions through remittances and investments are vital.
He also urged the Federal Government to release detained protesters who are being charged with treason, asserting that the right to protest government policies is constitutionally protected. Abubakar advised the government to release these individuals without trial and encouraged Nigerians in the diaspora to use civilized methods to address government policy missteps.
In conclusion, Abubakar appealed to all Nigerians abroad to continue to support and positively project Nigeria, emphasizing the country’s great potential for future success.
