American billionaire Dan Friedkin, the owner of AS Roma, has officially completed the purchase of Everton Football Club from majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri. As the 2024/2025 season continues, this significant deal marks a major change in ownership for the Premier League club.
Moshiri, who had been seeking to sell his stake in Everton for several years, came close to finalizing a sale earlier in 2024 to Miami-based 777 Partners. However, when that deal fell through, Friedkin resumed negotiations and has now reached a successful agreement to take over the club.
Friedkin Group’s Acquisition of Everton
Under the new deal, The Friedkin Group* will acquire a majority stake in Everton, pending approval from the Premier League, Football Association, and *Financial Conduct Authority*. This agreement also follows Friedkin’s previous withdrawal from negotiations due to concerns over loans taken by the club from other investors. After re-entering talks, Friedkin outbid American businessman John Textor, who was also interested in acquiring a majority share of the club.
Everton, which currently holds a debt of nearly £600 million ($798 million), had already secured a £200 million loan* from the Friedkin Group. As part of the new arrangement, it is possible that this loan could be converted into equity, which would help reduce the club’s debt and improve its financial stability.
The new ownership offers a fresh start for Everton, a club that has faced significant financial struggles in recent years, and signals a new era under Dan Friedkin’s leadership.
