Mikel Arteta has addressed Arsenal’s lack of signings in the January 2025 transfer window, praising the club’s board for their disciplined approach despite missing out on potential reinforcements.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Arteta acknowledged that Arsenal had identified the window as an opportunity to strengthen the squad but ultimately chose not to make any rushed decisions. While he admitted disappointment in not securing any signings, he emphasized the club’s commitment to only bringing in the right type of player.
“We had a clear intention, which is always there when a window opens—to explore opportunities to improve our squad with players that can impact it,” Arteta said. “We haven’t achieved it, so we are disappointed in that sense, but we are also very aware that we only want to bring in certain kinds of players, and we have to be very disciplined with that, and I think we will.”
Despite being linked with several names throughout January, Arsenal ended the window without any new additions. Arteta’s comments suggest that the club prioritized long-term squad planning over short-term fixes, potentially setting the stage for a more active summer transfer window.
