The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the successful relocation of eight 132kV and 33kV towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV transmission line, three days after the initial deadline.
In a statement issued by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, on Friday, TCN confirmed the restoration of full bulk power to the 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation, allowing normal power distribution to resume in the Federal Capital Territory.
The relocation became necessary due to the Federal Capital Development Authority’s (FCDA) road dualisation project. The work involved dismantling and reconstructing the towers, as well as restringing power cables.
To facilitate this, TCN had initially announced a planned power outage from January 6 to January 20, 2025, between 9 AM and 4 PM daily. Despite a slight delay, the company has now restored full power, enabling the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to resume normal electricity supply to customers.
The statement read:
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria is pleased to announce the restoration of full bulk power to its 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation, effective Thursday, January 23, 2025.
“With the restoration of full bulk power, Abuja DisCo can now provide normal electricity supply from the substation to its customers in the affected areas, ending the previous load rationing.
“TCN appreciates the patience and understanding of the affected electricity consumers during this period.”
This announcement brings relief to residents and businesses in the FCT, who had faced power disruptions during the relocation process
