On September 16, 2024, gunmen attacked the Umunze Police Station in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, killing two officers on duty. The attackers used improvised explosives and opened fire, setting part of the station ablaze. This incident follows a recent attack on the Divisional Police Station in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the attack and reported that five unexploded improvised explosives were recovered from the scene. Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam has visited the site for a security assessment and called for public assistance in the investigation.
House of Representatives member Princess Chinwe Nnabuife condemned the attack, promising collaboration with federal security agencies to address the situation and improve security. She urged the community to stay calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security efforts.
