In a recent statement, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja reassured Nigerians that the military is on track to overcoming the country’s prevailing security challenges. His comments came during the closing ceremony of the COAS Combined Second and Third Quarters Conference 2024, held on Thursday in Uyo.
During the conference, Lagbaja conveyed optimism about the military’s progress, citing encouraging feedback from various army formations and commands across Nigeria. “The reassurance is based on the security briefings we received from different army formations and commands across the country,” he stated.
Lagbaja acknowledged the severity of the security issues but emphasized that they are surmountable. “I must say that the feedback from the various commanders is encouraging. They show that the prevailing security challenges facing our dear nation, though daunting, are surmountable and that we are indeed on the right path to victory,” he added.
In his address, Lagbaja reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s dedication to upholding the constitution and advancing national interests and values. He assured Nigerians of the army’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and properties throughout the country.
“I assure Nigerians of our resolve to continue to collaborate with its sister services and other security agencies to ensure the security of lives and properties across the country,” Lagbaja stated. He also called on law-abiding citizens to support the government and security forces in their efforts to make Nigeria safer and more prosperous.
Lagbaja expressed gratitude to the conference participants for their sincere and passionate contributions. He noted that the decisions and recommendations from the deliberations have been thoroughly documented by the conference secretariat.
The COAS’s remarks reflect a proactive stance in addressing Nigeria’s security issues and highlight the military’s ongoing efforts to restore stability and ensure the safety of all citizens.
