A former House of Representatives aspirant for the Ede/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency in Osun State, Mr. Ayodele Asalu, has expressed strong support for the current government’s reforms, asserting that they are crucial for Nigeria’s long-term prosperity. In a statement released in Osogbo on Thursday, Asalu emphasized that the ongoing economic difficulties are necessary to address past errors and reposition Nigeria for future success.
Asalu, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighted that the current reforms, particularly in the petroleum sector, are intended to rectify systemic issues that have hindered the nation’s progress. Despite the immediate hardships faced by Nigerians, he urged the public to maintain faith in President Bola Tinubu’s vision.
“These reforms, though challenging, are in the best interest of Nigeria,” Asalu stated. “The present difficulties are a part of a broader strategy to correct past mistakes and pave the way for economic stability and growth. The goal is to reduce our dependency on imported petroleum products, stabilize the value of the Naira, and achieve sustained economic prosperity.”
Asalu called on public servants at all levels, especially state governors, to support the federal government’s initiatives. He emphasized the need for collective effort to ensure the success of these reforms, urging governors to refrain from actions that could undermine the federal government’s efforts.
“One of the major issues we face today is the poor value of the Naira, largely due to our over-reliance on the importation of essential items, particularly refined petroleum products,” Asalu said. “Reforming the petroleum industry to boost local refining capacity is crucial. By reducing our dependence on foreign exchange, we can stabilize the Naira and advance our economic prospects.”
He acknowledged that the path to achieving these goals is challenging but deemed it necessary. Asalu urged all political parties to rally behind President Tinubu’s administration to ensure that the intended outcomes of the reforms are realized.
“These reforms are a vital step towards correcting historical errors and making the most of Nigeria’s abundant natural resources. It is our responsibility to support this transformative journey, even if it requires significant sacrifices,” Asalu concluded.
