President Tinubu Approves Removal of Lagos State Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa

President Bola Tinubu has ratified the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. The decision was confirmed after a meeting held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, where the new Speaker, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, met with the President and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

Notable attendees at the meeting included GAC Chairman Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, Secretary Mutiu Are, APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Lagos West Senatorial District Leader Prince Rabiu Adio Oluwa, and other prominent APC leaders. However, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his Deputy Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and the removed Speaker Obasa were absent.

While President Tinubu initially had reservations about the manner in which Obasa was removed, sources revealed that he was eventually convinced following a presentation of evidence regarding alleged misconduct and financial mismanagement.

In her address, the new Speaker assured President Tinubu of her commitment to working in harmony with all arms of government to ensure that Lagos residents benefit from effective governance. Meranda had also visited Governor Sanwo-Olu earlier, pledging her full support and cooperation with the executive arm of the state government under her leadership.

This leadership change marks a significant development in Lagos State’s political landscape, with Meranda positioning herself to work for the state’s progress and the well-being of its residents.
