Tinubu: A United and Prosperous Nigeria Is Non-Negotiable

President Tinubu: Unity Is the Key to Nigeria’s Progress

President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that national unity is the only formula for sustainable progress in Nigeria. He urged leaders to take inspiration from the natural confluence of the River Niger and River Benue in Lokoja, Kogi State, as a metaphor for the strength that comes from collaboration and togetherness.

Speaking in Lokoja at the Kogi Dialogue, an event marking Governor Usman Ododo’s first year in office, Tinubu—represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima—stressed the power of unity in nation-building.

The Confluence of Rivers as a Symbol of Unity

“The convergence of these rivers is not just a geographical event; it is a divine lesson in strength and continuity,” Tinubu stated. “Just as water merging with water becomes stronger, so must we as leaders and citizens merge our efforts to build a united and prosperous Nigeria.”

Commending Governor Ododo for launching the Kogi Dialogue, Tinubu described the initiative as a crucial step toward reconciliation and progress. He called on leaders at all levels to build bridges of unity across the country and prioritize dialogue as a tool for conflict resolution and national cohesion.

The Role of Leaders in National Development

Tinubu urged political and community leaders to set aside divisions and support the government in creating an environment for growth.

“Now is the time to reject division and embrace unity as the only formula that works. Chaos and discord are ladders for the self-serving, but unity is the bridge that carries us all forward,” he asserted.

Despite the economic pressures and security challenges facing the nation, Tinubu noted that true leadership is tested in difficult times. He encouraged Nigerians to see themselves as threads in the intricate fabric of progress, emphasizing that every citizen has a role to play in nation-building.

“We cannot hope to build a stronger Nigeria if we allow division to fester at home. Leaders must rise above personal ambitions and put the welfare of the people first,” he added.

Governor Ododo’s Commitment to Kogi’s Development

In his remarks, Governor Usman Ododo expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the people of Kogi for their support. He reaffirmed his commitment to the growth and transformation of the state, emphasizing that Kogi is blessed with rich human, natural, and material resources that must be harnessed for prosperity.

Ododo highlighted some key achievements of his administration, including:

  • Upgrading healthcare centers
  • Improving infrastructure in the education sector
  • Introducing free basic education
  • Providing bursaries for students in tertiary institutions

He urged Kogi indigenes to prioritize the state’s development in all their endeavors.

APC Chairman Applauds Leadership Stability in Kogi

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, praised the cordial relationship between Governor Ododo and his predecessor, Yahaya Bello. He noted that a harmonious transition of power is crucial for the steady development of any state.
