Kwara State Police Commissioner Victor Olaiya has provided disturbing details about the brutal murder of High Chief Abraham Babatunde, the Aromu of Omu-Aran, by his driver, Ajiro Kayode. Speaking at a press conference in Ilorin, Olaiya described how Kayode committed the crime and attempted to cover it up.
On August 20, 2024, Kayode allegedly murdered Chief Abraham Babatunde with a plank, striking him multiple times on the head. To conceal the crime, Kayode dragged the victim’s body into the toilet to create the illusion of an accidental fall. The suspect reportedly stole a significant amount of money from the victim before fleeing.
In a related case, the police have charged several suspects in connection with the murder of Awesu Mojisola, a 21-year-old graduating student from Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa. The charges include criminal conspiracy and causing the disappearance of evidence. Among those arrested is Adebayo Joshua Happiness, an expelled student of Summit University, who was implicated in Mojisola’s death.
The investigation revealed that Happiness lured Mojisola to Ilorin under false pretenses with an offer of N15,000 for a party that did not exist. Once in Ilorin, Mojisola found herself alone with Happiness in a hotel room, where he subsequently murdered her. Happiness then stole Mojisola’s iPhone and N15,600 before abandoning her body and fleeing back to Offa.
The police discovered that Mojisola’s phone and SIM card were recovered from the possession of Happiness’s parents, who were allegedly involved in tampering with evidence. Mrs. Bukola Adeniyi, one of the suspect’s parents, was found to have hidden the SIM card within a wall.
The investigation is ongoing, with all suspects in custody. Police Commissioner Olaiya emphasized that further legal actions will be taken once the investigation is complete, and the suspects will face the full extent of the law.
