Senate Calls for National Unity to Support Nigerian Army’s Efforts in Eradicating Terrorism

The Nigerian Senate has urged Nigerians to unite in support of the Nigerian Army as it continues its efforts to eradicate terrorism and secure the nation. In a statement released by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua (APC, Katsina Central), the Senate commended the bravery and resilience of the Army in its ongoing battle against insurgents.

The Senate highlighted the Army’s recent success in reclaiming a major insurgent camp in the Mai-Saleh area, which borders Borno and Yobe States. The operation, carried out on January 25, 2025, led to the neutralization of over 70 terrorists, including three high-ranking commanders.

In addition to praising the Army’s efforts, the Senate also expressed condolences to the families of the personnel who sacrificed their lives during the operation, emphasizing the nation’s deep gratitude for their courage and dedication.

The Senate reiterated the importance of continued federal government support for the Army, particularly in the areas of funding and resources. The committee underscored that such support is critical for sustaining the Army’s success and advancing the fight against terrorism.

Yar’adua further emphasized that the success marks a significant milestone in the battle against terrorism, and he urged continued encouragement for the military. The Senate called on all Nigerians to support the military in their efforts to secure the nation and work towards the goal of eradicating terrorism.

The statement concluded with a call for national unity, stressing that collective support for the Army would lead to the achievement of a safer and more secure Nigeria.
