The Nigeria Police Force has detained 97 members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), commonly known as the Shi’ite group, for prosecution following a violent clash in Abuja on Sunday. The incident led to the deaths of two police officers, while three others sustained serious injuries.
The arrests are part of the police’s efforts to respond to the altercation, which has further heightened tensions between the authorities and the IMN group, which was banned in Nigeria in 2019. The detained members are expected to face legal action in connection with the incident.
