The Senate of Lagos State University (LASU) has elected Prof. Oseni Afisi as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics). He will officially take office on January 30, succeeding Prof. Olufunsho Abayomi Omobitan, whose tenure concludes on January 29.
Prof. Afisi, born on July 15, 1974, is a Professor of Philosophy and a distinguished academic with a rich educational background. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Lagos in 1998, followed by a Master of Arts in Philosophy in 2002. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, in 2014.
Afisi has been with LASU since March 2007, rising through the ranks from Assistant Lecturer to Associate Professor in 2020 and full Professor in 2023. He is also the first indigenous Professor of Philosophy in the university’s Department of Philosophy. Additionally, he served as the Head of the department from March 2019 to October 2021.
