No Conflict Between Osogbo and Ede: Ataoja and Timi Dispel Rumors of Land Dispute

In a bid to dispel growing rumors of discord between the towns of Osogbo and Ede, the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, and the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, have jointly affirmed that there is no underlying conflict or expansionist agenda causing tension between the two communities.

Recent social media speculation and newspaper reports (excluding Vanguard) had suggested a potential rift stemming from alleged territorial expansionist ambitions by Ede towards Osogbo. However, both monarchs have publicly clarified that these claims are unfounded and emphasized the strength of the historical ties between the towns.

Addressing the issue during a meeting held at the Ataoja’s palace in Osogbo, Oba Olanipekun asserted that there is no dispute regarding the boundaries between the towns. “This meeting, involving myself, the Ataoja-in-Council, and the Timi of Ede with his council, aims to calm any nerves about alleged land disputes or rising tensions. The relationship between our towns is fortified by history and mutual respect. We know and honor our boundaries,” he stated.

The Ataoja further proposed the revival of an inter-community committee from the Osogbo side to address any such issues proactively and to prevent the spread of misleading rumors in the future. “To prevent the propagation of falsehoods, we are reactivating the inter-community committee. Currently, there is no conflict as rumored on social media,” he added.

Similarly, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, the Timi of Ede, emphasized that Ede has no expansionist plans against Osogbo. He reassured that both communities have long-standing, cordial relations, rooted in historical intermarriages and mutual support. “Ede has no intention of disrupting the harmonious relationship established by our forefathers with Osogbo. We are committed to preserving this bond,” Oba Lawal said.

He also supported the Ataoja’s initiative to revitalize the inter-community committee, underscoring its importance in maintaining peace and cooperation. “The Timi-in-Council and I are here to address and dispel any concerns over supposed anti-Osogbo sentiments. The supposed strife is merely a rumor circulated on social media,” he added.

Both monarchs’ statements reflect a united front in reinforcing the enduring peace and collaboration between Osogbo and Ede, reaffirming that no political schemes or misinformation will undermine their historical and respectful relationship.

It was recorded as a case of a missing person. “He later returned on Saturday and said that some people had contacted the sister who owned the PoS business and were demanding money, so he sent ₦30,000 into the Moniepoint account, which we hope to use to track the receiver and arrest those behind the criminal act. We were there until 1 am early Sunday morning before we took a break and resumed the tracking later. “We were later informed on Sunday that the corpse of the young girl had been found at her father’s farm in Mile 6, and when we arrived, we discovered that the girl had been raped before she was killed.” Famobuwa further explained that a resident of the community allegedly saw a farm worker employed by the father of the victim entering the bush with the deceased but did not return with her. When challenged, the farm worker claimed that the girl was still busy on the farm and would join him later. The police also reported that a 15-year-old boy allegedly explained how he saw this farm worker with firewood on his head, running suspiciously as if attempting to flee from a crime scene. Famobuwa expressed regret that the father of the deceased, a senior officer in the So-Safe security agency established by the state government, had been provided with vital information by the residents of the community but failed to pass it on to the police. He stated that the farm worker, who is reported to have fled, is a prime suspect, but the police will do everything within the law to ensure that all the assailants involved in the criminal acts are brought to justice. Habeebah, a student of Lisabi Grammar School, Abeokuta, was set to enter SS3 when the new school session begins on 16th September and would have turned 17 in October.
