The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has commenced a $550 million upstream gas project in partnership with TotalEnergies for the development of the Ubeta field. The project, finalized in June 2024, aims to deliver 350 million standard cubic feet of gas per day once operational.
The announcement was made by Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Energy, during the inaugural United States-Nigeria Strategic Energy Dialogue in Washington, hosted by the US State Department. Verheijen highlighted that the energy reforms initiated by President Tinubu since June 2023 focus on enhancing energy security, attracting investment, and reducing carbon emissions.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of the State Department’s Bureau of Energy Resources, Geoffrey Pyatt, praised the dialogue for fostering stronger energy collaboration between the two countries, emphasizing goals of shared energy security, decarbonisation, and economic growth.
The Nigerian delegation, led by Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo, included officials from key energy and regulatory agencies, while the U.S. delegation featured representatives from various departments, including the Department of Energy.
