On September 17, 2024, a series of explosions involving pagers used by Hezbollah members rocked Lebanon, resulting in nine deaths and approximately 2,800 injuries. The blasts, which occurred in several Hezbollah strongholds, were reportedly caused by simultaneous detonations of pagers, with injuries predominantly to the face, hands, and stomach.
Among the deceased was the daughter of a Hezbollah member, while the son of a Hezbollah lawmaker was initially reported dead but later confirmed alive and injured. Iran’s ambassador to Beirut was also wounded but not seriously. The explosions also impacted neighboring Syria, injuring 14 people.
The Israeli military declined to comment on the incident, which is being interpreted by some sources as a potential breach of Hezbollah’s communications.
