Kenneth Okonkwo, former spokesman for the Obi/Datti Campaign Organization, has openly criticized Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party, for alleged mismanagement and breaches of party constitution. Okonkwo accuses Abure of turning the Labour Party into a personal business, claiming that the party lacks elected officials at various levels because Abure appointed all party leaders himself, contrary to the party’s constitution.
According to Okonkwo, despite court orders mandating an all-inclusive convention and the inauguration of the Board of Trustees (BOT), Abure failed to comply. He further alleges that Abure’s refusal to follow legal and organizational requirements has led to a situation where the Labour Party has no elected ward, local government, state, or national executives.
In his column for Daily Sun, Okonkwo argues that Abure’s failure to obey court judgments and regulatory requirements undermines the legitimacy of recent party conventions and decisions. He also criticizes the timing and handling of notifications to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling the convention process flawed and invalid.
Okonkwo’s remarks highlight ongoing internal conflicts within the Labour Party and raise concerns about the party’s adherence to legal and constitutional norms.
