“Fuel Hike: Arewa Group Urges FG Not to Take Nigerians’ Patience for Granted”

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has expressed strong disapproval of the recent sharp increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol. Yerima Shettima, the President General of the forum, criticized the Federal Government for appearing out of touch with the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.

Shettima highlighted the growing hardships, noting that the price increase has exacerbated existing issues of poverty and hunger. He pointed out that the increase in the minimum wage to ₦70,000 is inadequate, given the current economic challenges, and barely covers basic transportation costs.

He accused the government of insensitivity, stating that the recent measures only add to the suffering of Nigerians. Shettima called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to reconsider their approach and address the urgent needs of the people. He emphasized that the government’s primary responsibility is the welfare and well-being of its citizens and urged for immediate action to alleviate the negative impacts of the fuel price hike, which has had a ripple effect on food prices and transportation costs.

The AYCF’s comments reflect growing frustration among citizens and underline the need for the government to address the economic difficulties faced by ordinary Nigerians.
