Defence Headquarters Refutes Claims of Mass Kidnappings and Armored Vehicle Hijacking

In a separate development, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has rejected recent claims regarding bandit activities in Zamfara and Sokoto States. The DHQ addressed rumors of two armored vehicles being hijacked by bandits in Zamfara and over 150 civilians being kidnapped in Sokoto.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, clarified that videos circulating these claims were fabricated. One video purportedly showed bandits celebrating after allegedly capturing military vehicles in Zamfara. Another video claimed to show a mass burial conducted by terrorists, while a third alleged that over 150 residents had been kidnapped in Sokoto.

Major General Buba explained that the armored vehicles in the Zamfara video had become immobilized due to swampy terrain in Kwashabawa Village during a counter-terrorism operation. The vehicles were deliberately demobilized to prevent them from being captured by terrorists. The DHQ emphasized that these videos and claims were false and part of misinformation.
