The Katsina State Government House was engulfed by a fire early Monday morning, causing significant concern among residents and officials. The blaze reportedly began around 6 a.m., but the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
According to Alhaji Bashir, a local resident whose house is situated near the Government House, the fire was first observed by him shortly after dawn. In an interview with PUNCH Online, Bashir described the chaotic scene as emergency services rushed to the site.
Bashir reported, “I saw a fire service truck rushing in. I was in my house as early as 6 a.m. after prayers when I noticed the truck speeding towards the Government House. Later, I learned that there was an inferno inside the red chamber where Governor Dikko used to host guests.”
The fire has raised serious concerns about the potential damage to important government facilities and archives. As of now, details on the extent of the damage and the impact on ongoing governmental activities have not been officially confirmed.
Attempts by our correspondent to obtain further information from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Mohammed, were unsuccessful. Mohammed did not respond to calls seeking comment on the incident.
